The question is incomplete, the complete question is;

Every year students at West High School collect canned goods for a local food pantry. They plan to distribute flyers to homes in the community asking for donations. Last year, 12 students were able to distribute 1000 flyers in four hours. How long would it take 15 students to hand out the same number of flyers this year?

Answer:

t = 48/s

3.2 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

This must be an inverse relation because it will definitely take more students to distribute the flyers in  less time.

So;

Let the number of students be s

Let the time to distribute the flyers be t

s α 1/t

s = k/t

t = k/s

The question said that it takes 12 students takes 4 hours to distribute 1000 flyers.

So;

4 = k/12

k = 48

Hence,

t = 48/s

When s= 15

t = 48/15

t = 3.2 hours

Two fair dice are rolled. find the probability of a "double" given that the sum is 11.
Sergio [31]
Star with the statement: "Given that the sum is 11"
which may seem a bit odd considering its the last part of the problem

The "given" is important as it sets up the constraints of what we're dealing with. In this case, we know 100% (we can see or someone told us without lying) that the sum is 11. We don't know what the individual values are but we know they add to 11.

What are the ways to add to 11? Well they are...
5+6 = 11
6+5 = 11
so there are 2 ways to do it. As you can see, none of those ways involve a double. A double is where we have two of the same values (eg: snake eyes which is 1 and 1 giving 1+1 = 2 as the sum). It turns out that it's impossible to have doubles add to any odd number.

So if we know the sum is 11, and we're asking "what is the probability of rolling doubles", then the answer is 0.
The 0 indicates "impossible" or "certainty of it never happening".

g Suppose you have $100 of endowment, and you are offered a chance to buy a lottery which costs $36. The lottery has 18% of chan
vlabodo [156]

Answer:

$301.23

Step-by-step explanation:

We have that the function of wealth is U (w) = w ^ (1/2)

So, since what you have at the start is 100, we replace:

U (w) = 100 ^ (1/2)

U = 10

Now we have two cases:

the first one we win, then the winnings would be 100 minus the cost of the lottery, that is 36 and to that add G of the prize:

100 - 36 + G = 64 + G

In the second case, where we lose, the subtraction of 100 that we have minus the cost of the lottery would be equal 36

100 - 36 = 64

Therefore, we have to win with an 18% probability, therefore losing would be 82% (100% - 18%)

0.18 * (64 + G) ^ (1/2) + 0.82 * 64 ^ (1/2)

solving:

0.18 * (64 + G) ^ (1/2) + 6.56

Now this is equal to U which is equal to 10:

10 = 0.18 * (64 + G) ^ (1/2) + 6.56

(10 - 6.56) /0.18 = (64 + G) ^ (1/2)

(64 + G) ^ (1/2) = 19.11

(64 + G) = 365.23

G = 365.23 - 64

G = 301.23

Therefore, the smallest G prize size that the lottery will be willing to buy is $ 301.23
