I followed the footprints in the sand hoping it would dirstract the pain in my head. The footprints seemed small, too small. Reminding me of of Emma, my 8 year old daughter who is now lost in this selfish big world. The footprints went on for a while. A little part of me hoping they were Emma's. The footprints stoped and as i glanced up, of coarse it wasn't Emmas but instead this little boy sitting by himself reading a book.

I was shocked to see this little 5-6 year old reading a thick chapter book. As i walked toward him he paid little to no attention in me, just glaring into the thick book. Thats about when I saw a tear drop from his eye. I went up sat next to him as he quickly started to wipe his face.

" Are you ok?" I asked without hesitaion. He looked up and said, "Yeah, im fine. Just missing my parents." He then closed his book and stared blankly in the sand.

"You see, my parents droped me off at school but when I came back they were just not home" he said trying to hold back tears. " They never came back?" I asked, hoping he would respond. He didn't.

"I know how it feels to loose something that you love the most." I said staring into the ocean.

"You really don't though." he said making an unreadable expression.

"I lost my daughter a month ago." I blurted

"Oh, i'm sorry. I shoudn't have been rude...I didn't..." he started to trail off.

"It fine." i interupted. Then nobody talked for a while.

We both stated fidiling with the sand, making castles, forts, burying eachother. It was the most fun I ever had this month. The boy seemed calm and collective. I envied him.

"So lady, whats your name?" the boy asked enthusistically

" You can call me Rose, short for Rosalie." I infomed

" Neat! You can call me Ben!" he said.

I forgot that this same boy that was crying earlier was this happy little boy.

"Who do you live with now?" I asked knowig it might have been a sensitive subject.

"My aunt, she doesn't want to help me find my parents" he said while building a sand castle. "but I want to help you find your daughter..."

"Emma" I responded

"Ah Emma, if you will help me find my parent?" he looked up to see my response

A tear ruled down my eye. "S-sure" I said smiling and wiping my tear.

I followed the footprints in the sand. The never ending steps felt daunting as I moved forward. There was a strong stench in the air. The water fading as I took each step. Moving further from all familiarity I once knew. I took a deep breath. I began to shake out of fear as I saw a man appear from the shadows. He seems quite glum. His body language seemed to be ever change because as I got closer he seemed to grow this tantalizing grin. I knew nothing good was to come from this. I yelled out but saw as though there was nothing but a bit of rock behind me. No one could hear me now. I had to choose my next move wisely. I tell myself, you only have one shot at this. He reaches for my hand. I snap my wrist back to show my doubt. He leaned upon me. Lifeless, I asked him, am I going to die?
