Read the excerpts from "opening statements from John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon First Televised Debate." Kennedy: I'm not s

atisfied to have fifty percent of our steel-mill capacity unused. I'm not satisfied when the United States had last year the lowest rate of economic growth of any major industrialized society in the world. Nixon: We heard tonight, for example, the statement made that our growth in national product last year was the lowest of any industrial nation in the world. Now last year, of course, was 1958. That happened to be a recession year. But when we look at the growth of G.N.P. this year, a year of recovery, we find that it's six and nine-tenths percent and one of the highest in the world today. Which statement best compares Nixon's and Kennedy's positions on U.S. economic growth? Kennedy argues that the U.S. government needs to prop up the steel industry; Nixon opposes intrusive government interference. Kennedy argues that economic growth in the United States is sluggish; Nixon argues that the U.S. economy is growing robustly. Kennedy believes that economic growth in the United States will decline without immediate government action; Nixon strongly disagrees. Kennedy wants to slow economic growth to halt inflation; Nixon wants to encourage economic growth to make the United States more powerful.

Write a fictional scene. Write a single scene about an important, fictional event. The scene must establish a clear point of view
STALIN [3.7K]

You can write a fictional scene where a king is betrayed by his own son who wants to usurp the throne, and you can use a third-person point of view.

How to write a scene

To write this fictional scene, you must first decide what you want to write about. We can, for instance, think of a scene in which betrayal is involved. Therefore, the elements of the scene would be the following:

 • Point of view: third person limited.
 • Setting: 16th century, Iberian Peninsula, a castle.
 • Characters: King Carlos and his son Prince Henrique.
 • Conflict: character vs character. Prince Henrique has betrayed his own father.

An example of such a scene would be the following:

 • "You?" the king's voice resonated, even though it sounded broken for the first time in his life. Prince Henrique's footsteps echoed in the hall as he walked towards his father, the cold stone walls of the throne room reverberating as if an earthquake were taking place with each step he took. Henrique shrugged, "I'm surprised you didn't see it coming, father." King Carlos could no longer stand. He fell back onto the throne, dropping his sword. Outside, he could hear the screams and the clashing, metallic sounds he knew so well. A battle was taking place, and man against man, sword against sword, violence reigned. Henrique unsheathed his own sword. "I do not wish to kill you, old man. Surrender already." Carlos reached for his own fallen sword and grasped its golden hilt. "I never thought I would have to murder my own son," he whispered. "But you are a traitor, Henrique, and no traitor shall remain alive."

The scene above is simply an example. Feel free to adapt it and add details.

Read the lines from the poem. These lines refer to the biblical story of Samson.
timama [110]

The poem creates a somber mood by describing one of the worst moments in Samson’s life.

Answer: Option D.

Explanation:

The lines which have been taken from the biblical story of Samson describe a very sad mood. It is a serious moment where Samson is seen fighting the evil people and the efforts that he had to put in to fight these evil people in his life and then ultimately he dies fighting.

The lines speak about how he was tricked by the evil people and how he got strength from God to fight these people, bringing in some hope but then this hope was lost again when Samson died fighting for himself.

Reika [66]

Answer:

The flowers are personified as humans.

Explanation:

In the poem the writer uses words that make the flowers sound alive. Wide-eyed gazing into the distance, waiting for the 3 o'clock train. The flowers seem to be more alive this way rather than if you were to describe only their physical attributes.
