99 % of the trees in our neighborhood are eucalyptus trees. The town planning commission wants to get rid of some of these trees

because they spread too quickly. However, the people in my neighborhood like the trees. The commission argues that their new eucalyptus tree removal plan will cut down so few eucalyptus trees that 98% of the trees in our neighborhood will be eucalyptus trees. If the plan only involves removing eucalyptus trees, what percent of the existing trees in my neighborhood would the plan remove

Answer:

50%

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total number of trees be T and suppose that this is made up of eucalyptus trees E and other kinds of trees, O.

Then E+O=T, and since 99% of the trees are eucalyptus trees, EE+O=0.99.

Therefore

0.99E+0.99O=E

0.01E=0.99O

E=99O.

Suppose we reduce the number of eucalyptus trees by some amount x and that the remaining number of eucalyptus trees are now 98% of the total trees.

Then we would have E−x(E−x)+O=0.98.

Therefore,

0.02(E−x)=0.98O

0.02E−0.02x=0.98O

0.02x=0.02E−0.98O

x=E−50(0.98)O

x=E−49O

x=E−49(E99)

x=5099E≈0.505050...×E.

So we end up removing a little over half of the eucalyptus trees. EDIT: Forgot to mention - removing 50.505050...% of the eucalyptus trees means that we are removing 0.50505050....×0.99T which is 0.5T or half the trees in the neighborhood.

the table shows ingredients needed to make 1 batch of fruit salad. Mr. Weakland has enough ingredients to make 2 1/2 batches of
Juli2301 [7.4K]

The number of cups of fruit salad that will be in each container is; 3³/₄ cups of fruit salad

How to divide fractions?

We are given the table showing the amount of cups of each ingredient as attached.

From the table we see that;

Amount of cups of Pineapple = 2³/₄

Amount of cups of Strawberries = 2¹/₂

Amount of cups of Bananas = 1¹/₂

Amount of cups of Blueberries = 2¹/₄

Now, converting each of the given fractions to improper fractions gives;

11/4, 5/2, 3/2, 9/2

Summing up all the fractions will give us;

11/4 + 5/2 + 3/2 + 9/2

(1/4)(11 + 10 + 6 + 18) = 45/4

Now, since this total amount will be divided by 3, we will have;

45/4 ÷ 3

= 45/4 * 1/3

= 15/4 = 3³/₄ cups of fruit salad

Ryan buys a bag of cookies that contains 8 chocolate chip cookies, 4 peanut butter cookies, 4 sugar
Pavlova-9 [17]

Answer:

4/69 to be exact. Slightly greater than 1/18

Step-by-step explanation:

The chance of selecting the PB cookie on the first try is 4 out of 24 or 1 out of 6. There are now 23 coolies left; 8 are chocolate, so 8/23 chance. (Slightly greater than 1/3) The chance of both events happening is the product if the individual events' chances. So multiply 1/6 times 8/23 to get 8/138. That reduces to 4/ 69. If he had put that first cookie back, the multiplication would have been 1/6×1/3. A lot easier.
