A victim of racism his whole life, it could be really difficult for Robinson to refrain himself from being angry and from fighting back when someone said something offensive to him. Rickey, on the other hand, had a different approach. He believed it was okay to not fight back - it did not mean Robinson was a coward, it just meant he was poised, strong, and brave. Therefore, Robinson's choice to make fun of the racist player like that, in a lighthearted manner, would have made Rickey proud.
