The only restriction was that until Eurydice was well ensconced in the upper world, Orpheus was not allowed to look back at her. She would go back into Hell if he broke his oath.

As they traveled the steep, foggy route leading out of the underworld with their beloved, worried Orpheus looked back to see his bride, who had fallen, and said a final farewell before passing away once more. Because Eurydice now knew, Ovid writes in his Metamorphoses, "No rebuke escaped her lips."
