Goddard made the first rocket that set ideas about exploring space. Goddard made the claim that rockets will reach the moon.

However, there was much doubt among people. The newspaper publication, The New York Times, dismissed this idea with the claim that nothing can fly in the vacuum – space lacking any matter.

Only after the first man have managed to reach space and the moon have they been convinced this was not true.
