The period between 1775 and 1812 is a time of great mistrust between American political leaders and the British Empire.

After the War of Independence, there was another serious skirmish between American and British forces in 1812.

The Americans were heavily defeated in 1812 with the British even burning the White house and leaving Washington D.C. 

By the end, <span>as a compensation for American aggression, the British Empire asked for the Territory of Maine to be broken off from Massachusetts and incorporated with their Territory of Canada.</span>
