However, this modest study of developments over this nine year span shows that while problems persist, there has been unmistakable progress.

Mercantalism helped push exploration during the age of exploration to find more profitable trade routes to the east. Leading this exploration was Portugal which finally after many years of trying reached India with the Vasco de Gamma expedition. One of Vasco de Gammas expeditions also discovered Brazil.
