I think it is important to see if the student actually pays attention. I know lots of kids who don't pay attention in class and fail their tests. Then the teachers allow them to study and retake it. It was, originally, a way to make students pay attention. Now, people think that if you are a test, like the SATs, though collages are starting to ignore those grades and look at your grades in your subjects.
