Answer:  It was where the first shots of the Civil War were fired.

Explanation: Ft. Sumter is significant for being where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. Confederate forces began firing on the Union-held fort on April 12, 1861, at 4:30 a.m. and continued for 33 straight hours. No one died in the combat, though the war it caused would go down as the bloodiest in U.S. history.

Why was there tension between the United States and the USSR after World War ||?
Mamont248 [21]

Answer:

Tension was created because both the United States and the USSR wanted their ways of government spread over Europe, because Germany was split into two parts. One given to the US and the other to the USSR. The US side was influenced with US ideologies and the USSR part was made communist. The US did not like what the USSR was doing and the USSR did not like what the US was doing. So as tensions grew, both sides started to flex the newest technology they had created, and is known as the Cold War.

Why would a freedman agree to become a sharecropper?
schepotkina [342]
The main reason why a freedman would agree to become a sharecropper is because he had practically no money--having just been freed from slavery. Working for someone else on poor terms was one of the only ways to survive.

kumpel [21]

During the 1880s, following completion of the 105-mile Suez Canal, French entrepreneur Ferdinand DeLesseps poured billions of francs and 25,000 lives into an unsuccessful attempt to build a sea-level canal through Panama. The French effort was thwarted by disease, unreliable machinery, and almost a billion cubic yards of rock that stood in the way.

In 1879, Ferdinand Marie de Lesseps, the builder of the Suez Canal proposed a sea level canal through Panama. With the success he had with the construction of the Suez Canal in Egypt just ten years earlier, de Lesseps was confident he would complete the water circle around the world. Time and mileage would be dramatically reduced when traveling from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean or vice versa. For example, it would save a total of 18,000 miles on a trip from New York to San Francisco.

Although de Lesseps was not an engineer, he was appointed chairman for the construction of the Panama Canal. Upon taking charge, he organized an International Congress to discuss several schemes for constructing a ship canal. De Lesseps opted for a sea-level canal based on the construction of the Suez Canal. He believed that if a sea-level canal worked when constructing the Suez Canal, it must work for the Panama Canal.
