At the beginning of a snowstorm, Madeline had 11 inches of snow on her lawn. The snow then began to fall at a constant rate of 0

.5 inches per hour. Assuming no snow was melting, how much snow would Madeline have on her lawn 5 hours after the snow began to fall? How much snow would Madeline have on her lawn after tt hours of snow falling?

You would just take .5x5 which would be 2.5 inches without the snow melting it would add up to 13.5in the last part with the tt I’m not sure but it follows the same principle .5x(Time)+the original amount will give you the answer

1500 customers hold a VISA card; 500 hold an American Express card; and, 75 hold a VISA and an American Express. What is the pro
alex41 [277]

Answer:

There is 15% probability that a customer chosen at random holds a VISA card, given that the customer has an American Express card.

P(VISA \:| \:AE) = 15\%\\

Step-by-step explanation:

Number of customers having a Visa card = 1,500

Number of customers having an American Express card = 500

Number of customers having Visa and American Express card = 75

Total number of customers = 1,500 + 500 = 2,000

We are asked to find the probability that a customer chosen at random holds a VISA card, given that the customer has an American Express card.

This problem is related to conditional probability which is given by

P(A \:| \:B) = \frac{P(A \:and \:B)}{P(B)}

For the given problem it becomes

P(VISA \:| \:AE) = \frac{P(VISA \:and \:AE)}{P(AE)}

The probability P(VISA and AE) is given by

P(VISA and AE) = 75/2000

P(VISA and AE) = 0.0375

The probability P(AE) is given by

P(AE) = 500/2000

P(AE) = 0.25

Finally,

P(VISA \:| \:AE) = \frac{P(VISA \:and \:AE)}{P(AE)}\\\\P(VISA \:| \:AE) = \frac{0.0375}{0.25}\\\\P(VISA \:| \:AE) = 0.15\\\\P(VISA \:| \:AE) = 15\%\\

Therefore, there is 15% probability that a customer chosen at random holds a VISA card, given that the customer has an American Express card.

Find the exact length of the midsegment of the trapezoid with the vertices S(−2, 4), T(−2,−4), U(3,−2), V(13, 10).
Vlada [557]

Check the picture below.

first off we'll need to know the midpoints of ST and UV, well, from ST as you can see in the picture, is just a vertical line, so its midpoint is simply (-2,0), let's find it for UV

\bf ~~~~~~~~~~~~\textit{middle point of 2 points } \\\\ U(\stackrel{x_1}{3}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{-2})\qquad V(\stackrel{x_2}{13}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{10}) \qquad \left(\cfrac{ x_2 + x_1}{2}~~~ ,~~~ \cfrac{ y_2 + y_1}{2} \right) \\\\\\ \left(\cfrac{13+3}{2}~~,~~\cfrac{10-2}{2} \right)\implies \left( \cfrac{16}{2}~~,~~\cfrac{8}{2} \right)\implies (8~~,~~4) \\\\[-0.35em] ~\dotfill

\bf ~~~~~~~~~~~~\textit{distance between 2 points} \\\\ (\stackrel{x_1}{-2}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{0})\qquad (\stackrel{x_2}{8}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{4})\qquad \qquad d = \sqrt{( x_2- x_1)^2 + ( y_2- y_1)^2} \\\\\\ d = \sqrt{[8-(-2)]^2+[4-0]^2}\implies d=\sqrt{(8+2)^2+(4-0)^2} \\\\\\ d=\sqrt{10^2+4^2}\implies d=\sqrt{116}\implies d\approx 10.77
