Due to the impossibility of religious integration into English society, many Puritans viewed the New World as their own home. A large number of colonists had problems in their home country with both secular and spiritual authorities. The New World became a place where they could organize political and secular leadership as they wished.

And that EU settlers is better than locals mentality continue even till now, so EU settlers are living in mansions while locals are living in "shoebox"
