If a ceiling fan is meant for the ceiling, then why do we put it together not on the ceiling?

I think that ceiling fans are made before hand in a factory, but then have to be wired and attached on the ceiling. It would be kind of impossible to actually construct a fan on a ceiling because of gravity. You know? <span />
