Assignment: The World’s Energy Exploration The amount of energy available in the form of nonrenewable resources is finite. You can personally make a difference in making sure that the world continues to have enough energy to supply electricity to everyone who needs it. Today’s assignment is an opportunity to do research into ways that you can make an impact. Your research will focus on creating a plan that you want to present to one of the following: a) your family b) a club or team that you are a part of c) a community organization like your church or school The purpose of your plan is to see the world’s energy last a long time. There are a couple of categories to consider, such as different ways to do the following things: a) Use renewable resources (example: adding solar panels to a building) b) Conserve energy (example: reducing the amount of electricity used) c) Reduce, reuse, and recycle (example: planning a recycling drive) d) Add “green spaces” (example: growing vegetables in a garden) You need to find three websites related to your idea. Look for other individuals or groups that have accomplished a similar goal. Once you have found your websites, answer the following questions. Number each question and make sure to write your answers in complete sentences. 1. What project do you want to propose and who do you want to participate? 2. What are the three websites you found that helped you choose a project and/or described other people doing similar projects? 3. After reading their stories and thinking about your own ideas, describe your idea for your project. Think of your answer as your presentation of your idea to your group. Make sure to tell them what you want to accomplish and why it is important. 4. In your research, find a difficulty that others faced that you might need to consider. Explain the issue and how it might impact your plan. 5. Choose one story from your research that you found most inspiring. Share a quotation and explain why this was meaningful.

-Dominant- [34]

The Englishman Robert Hooke (18th July 1635 - 3rd March 1703) was an architect, natural philosopher and brilliant scientist, best known for his law of elasticity (Hooke's law), his book Micrographia, published in 1665 and for first applying the word "cell" to describe the basic unit of life. It is also less well known that there is substantial evidence that Hooke developed the spring watch escapement, independently of and some fifteen years before Huygens, who is credited for this invention. Hooke also is recognised for his work on gravity, and his work as an architect and surveyor.

Hooke's Micrographia

Here, we focus on his pioneering work using the microscope to document observations of a variety of samples in his book Micrographia, published in September 1665.

Hooke began his famed career by initially studying at Wadham College, Oxford, where he worked closely under John Wilkins with other contemporaries, including Thomas Willis and Robert Boyle, for whom he built the vacuum pumps used in Boyle's gas law experiments. He also built some of the earliest telescopes, observing the rotations of Mars and Jupiter, and, based on his observations of fossils, was an early proponent of biological evolution. If that wasn't enough, he investigated the phenomenon of refraction, deducing the wave theory of light, and was the first to suggest that matter expands when heated and that air is made of small particles separated by relatively large distances, yet curiously Robert Hooke is somewhat overlooked in his contributions to science, perhaps as there were many people who wrote of Hooke as a difficult personality, being described as of "cynical temperament" and of "caustic tongue". There were also disputes with fellow scientists, including disputes with Isaac Newton over credit for work on gravitation and the planets. Though it must be remembered that Hooke lived at a time of immense scientific progress and discovery and none of the above diminish Hooke'
