1. An expository essay instructs, provides information, or explains. In this essay, you are presenting information and explainin

g why you think the ideas and work of the individual you chose had an effect on European thought. But before you begin writing the essay, you need to organize the information you’ve gathered by creating an outline.
Directions:
(a) Your Taking Notes sheet should have helped you identify and organize the information you found while doing your research. Now it is time to create an outline to organize the information in the way you will present it in your essay. You may decide not to use all the information you gathered, but be sure you do not leave out anything that you believe is important to support your thesis.
(b) Your essay should include an introductory paragraph, supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Each paragraph should cover one main topic and should correspond to a Roman numeral (I., II., III.) on the outline. The main topics should cover: The person’s accomplishment and contributions, and the effect of his or her accomplishments or contributions on European thought.
(c) Write a topic sentence for each paragraph of your essay. Be sure it tells the reader what the section will be about and how the information relates to your thesis statement. Your topic sentence for the introductory paragraph might say something like “Johannes Gutenberg’s invention changed the way people communicated.” A topic sentence for the second paragraph—the first main topic—might be something like "Gutenberg’s printing press changed the way books were produced and the way knowledge was communicated.”
(d) Decide which pieces of information you will use to support your topic sentences. (These ideas or groups of facts are called subtopics.) Subtopics follow capital letters and periods (A., B., and C.) on your outline. Add this information beneath your topic sentence.
(e) You can further divide subtopics into specific facts. In an outline, specific facts follow Arabic numerals and periods (1. 2. 3. 4.)
(f) End your outline and essay with a concluding paragraph. Write a concluding paragraph that summarizes the main ideas of your essay and restates your thesis statement in some way. Write no more than four or five sentences.

What is NOT a Similarity between political parties
IRISSAK [1]

The differences between these two are much more important than the similarities. In fact, it is often said that political parties and interest groups are in competition with one another for power.

There are some similarities between these two. The main one is that they both want to get the government to do certain things. The NRA and the Republican Party, for example, both want the government to do less in the way of regulating people’s right to bear arms.

However, this is where the similarity ends. The major difference between the two is that the political parties care about many issues while interest groups only care about one. Using our previous example, it might be in the Republican Party’s interest to downplay issues of gun rights. The party might be able to attract broader support if it did not seem so dogmatic on this issue. By contrast, the NRA cares only about gun rights. It does not particularly care if the Republican Party expands its base just as long as only pro-gun people are elected to Congress.

Political parties try to create and hold together broad coalitions. They want to be able to govern effectively over a range of issues. Interest groups do not care about broad coalitions. They only care about winning on their particular issue.

A paragraph that explains the central idea of the Fugitive Slave Act
vfiekz [6]

According to the US Census the number of slaves reported as fugitives in free states in 1850 was 1,011. That number represented 1 in 3,165 slaves. The annual loss to slaveholders had increased over the years which was exacerbated by the north’s reluctance to return runaways. The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 replaced the weakened fugitive Slave Act of 1793 which faced increased resistance from northern states. The new act added provisions for harsher punishment and fines for those who interfered in the capture of a runaway slave as well as gave incentives to those who captured escapees.
