Given:

A line passes through (1,-2) and is perpendicular to -4x+7y=21.

To find:

The equation of that line.

Solution:

We have, equation of perpendicular line.

-4x+7y=21

Slope of this line is

m_1=-\dfrac{\text{Coefficient of x}}{\text{Coefficient of y}}

m_1=-\dfrac{-4}{7}

m_1=\dfrac{4}{7}

Product of slope of two perpendicular lines is -1.

m_1\times m_2=-1

\dfrac{4}{7}\times m_2=-1

m_2=-\dfrac{7}{4}

Now, slope of required line is -\dfrac{7}{4} and it passes through (1,-2). So, the equation of line is

y-y_1=m(x-x_1)

where, m is slope.

y-(-2)=-\dfrac{7}{4}(x-1)

4(y+2)=-7(x-1)

4y+8=-7x+7

4y+7x=7-8

7x+4y=-1

Therefore, the equation of required line is 7x+4y=-1.

Determine the approximate value of x.
yarga [219]

Answer:

  C.  6.736

Step-by-step explanation:

The unmarked angle is 180-80-40 = 60 degrees. Given the angles of the triangle and one side length there is enough information to use the Law of Sines to solve the triangle--eliminating choice D.

The angle opposite x is larger than the angle opposite 5, so <em>x will be larger than 5</em>. That leaves only answer choice C: 6.736.

___

If you want to actually use the law of sines to determine x, you know that ...

  x / sin(60°) = 5 / sin(40°)

  x = 5·sin(60°)/sin(40°) . . . . . . multiply by sin(60°)

  x ≈ 6.736

A random sample of size 15 taken from a normally distributed population revealed a sample mean of 75 and a sample variance of 25
GREYUIT [131]

Answer:

The upper limit of a 95% confidence interval for the population mean would equal 83.805.

Step-by-step explanation:

The standard deviation is the square root of the variance. Since the variance is 25, the sample's standard deviation is 5.

We have the sample standard deviation, not the population, so we use the t-distribution to solve this question.

T interval:

The first step to solve this problem is finding how many degrees of freedom, we have. This is the sample size subtracted by 1. So

df = 15 - 1 = 14

Now, we have to find a value of T, which is found looking at the t table, with 14 degrees of freedom(y-axis) and a confidence level of 0.95(t_{95}). So we have T = 1.761

The margin of error is:

M = T*s = 1.761*5 = 8.805.

The upper end of the interval is the sample mean added to M. So it is 75 + 8.805 = 83.805.

The upper limit of a 95% confidence interval for the population mean would equal 83.805.
