The people in Peking faced the following problems:

The Boxer Rebellion was an anti-foreign, anti-colonial, and anti-Christian uprising that took place in China between 1899 and 1901, toward the end of the Qing dynasty. They were motivated by proto-nationalist sentiments and by opposition to Western colonialism and the Christian missionary activity that was associated with it.
During this period of time, there were many innovations,that as it happens today, have a deep effect on people´s life.
One of the major innovations, was undoubtedly, the automobile, which started being produced massively during the early 20th century. This changed the way the cities were designed and brought a new concept of city living as we know them today.
Secondly, aviation. Airplanes were highly developed during the first years of 20th Century, as a consequence of theiruse as warfare, changing the way people were connected as it reduced distances and making the country smaller by reaching to distant places more efficiently.
And finally, Technicolor, dating from 1916, which added color to the motion pictures, which had a great influence in the culture, expanding the industry and creating a new way to promote arts and culture.
