Answer:
The novel Frankenstein is greatly influenced by the tale of Prometheus.
Explanation:
The full name of the book is Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus. In Greek mythology, Prometheus is credited with the creation of humanity from clay, and stealing the God´s fire to give to humanity knowledge and enlightenment. He then was eternally condemned by Zeus, being bounded to a rock and having an eagle come every day to eat his liver, which would grow back overnight. In later western cultures, Prometheus became a figure that represented human striving, the quest for scientific knowledge, and the risk of unintended consequences. Victor Frankenstein, like Prometheus, wants to be a creator and hold the power of the Gods, by assembling a body from various corpses and trying to give it life, using the power of electricity (representation of Zeus). He then is tortured by his own creation for the rest of his days, like Prometheus. The gift of creating life comes along with the curse of the monster, whom Victor could not bare, and then goes on a killing spree for not being accepted. The killing spree of Frankenstein´s monster would be a representation of Pandora, who was sent by Zeus to release all the evils of humanity after Prometheus gifted them with the God´s fire.
Answer and Explanation:
The main literary elements used by these two writers are figures of speech. Figures of speech are elements that seek to stylize the text, making it more beautiful, deeper and highlighting concepts within it. These figures of speech reinforce the communication that the text presents, and making the text more appreciable.
Regarding the use of figures of speech in the works of Stephen Crane and Ambrose Bierce, we can say that they differ in the effect they present in the text and in the form of communication that they transmit to the reader. Ambrose Bierce, uses figures of speech that present sounds or harmony, causing rhythms in reading. These figures of speech are used in a very objective way and promote a more gothic, poetic and melodramatic communication.
Stephen Crane, on the other hand, often uses figures of speech that present thoughts, making constant use of simile and irony, where he makes explicit comparisons between two elements in a critical, accusing and often joking way.
