The 13th amendment is an amendment to the Constitution added after the Civil War, which made the enslavement of humans illegal.

Here is the text of the first section:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

The bolded phrase is what caused problems for freed slaves. This phrase clarified that unpaid labor in jails and prison was legal, and this began the use of chain gangs, or groups of prisoners doing (often hard) unpaid labor. And since the reunited Confederate states were mostly run by racist former Confederates, law enforcement in these states were as well. This was passed on January 31, 1965. This was approved by the required 27 of the 36 states. This happened on December 6, 1865. This was announced on December 18th.

What was written in it was this:

What had created problems for the slaves after?

Approximately one year after the amendment was passed, the Congress had used the power to pass a civil right's bill. This was the first civil rights bill, and it is called the Civil Rights Act of 1866. The law invalidated the black codes (the freed slaves) those laws put into place in the former Confederate states. These states that governed the behavior of the black people, and consequently this kept them dependent on their former slave owners.

Both these Acts led to the loss of civil liberties for the colonists who had to allow the British into their homes at the behest of the British.

if direct democracy means (pure) democracy then it means that every citizen would get a chance to vote on issues instead of what we have in the US: a representative democracy where we vote in politicians to do it for us. A pure democracy would lead to civil war most likely b/c too many people would be able to disagree, anarchy would be a likely result,....so i would say D is your answer
