We can write equations, using x and y as the length and width:

xy=40
2x+2y=26

Divide the second equation by two to get:
xy=40
x+y=13

Thus, x=13-y.

We now have (13-x)x=40, so
13x-x^2=40
and x^2-13x+40=0

Factoring, we get:
(x-5)(x-8)=0

So, x can be either 5 or 8 (and y will be the other option).  Thus, the length and width are 8 and 5.

Each ream weighs 5 lb . so, reducing 10 lb means removing 2 reams from the 12. so, how do we arrange the 10 reams so that its easy to carry?
i thinks that 3 stacks will not work as it wont be a symmetric arrangement as 1 will be left out. So, 2 stacks of 5 each would be easy to carry. but the stacks should be placed in such a way that the lengths are parallel to each other and not in-line which would increase the length making it comparatively longer. its easier to hold a (2*8.5,11,2*5=17,11,17)compact box.

ella [17]

Answer:

4 {n}^{5}  + 3.5 {n}^{5}  + ( - 2.1 {n}^{5} )

first create a bracket:

= ( {4n}^{5}  + 3.5 {n}^{5} ) + ( - 2.1 {n}^{5} )

then solve the first bracket:

=  {7.5 {n}^{5} } + ( - 2.1 {n}^{5} )

then open the remaining bracket:

=  {7.5n}^{5}  -  {2.1n}^{5}

carryout the subtraction operation:

= (7.5 - 2.1) {n}^{5}  \\ { \boxed{ =  {5.4n}^{5} }}
