Problem
Sergeu [11.5K]

The lengths of HJ and JK are 50 and 72 respectively.

Given: J is between H and K. the length of HJ=2x+4, JK=3x+3, and HK=22.

The line HJ and JK are  collinear then the total length is given as: HJ+JK=HK

substitute values

⇒ (2x+4)+(3x+3)=22

⇒ 5x+7=22

⇒ 5x=22-7

⇒ 5x=15

⇒ x=3

Thus, the length of HJ is (2x+4)=(2*3+4)=10

And the length of JK is (3x+3)=(3*3+3)=12

Is a relation always a function? Is a function always a relation? Explain.
katen-ka-za [31]

A function is always a relation but relation is not always a function

<u>Solution:</u>

Given that, we have to explain Is a relation always a function and is a function always a relation

Note that both functions and relations are defined as sets of lists.

In fact, every function is a relation. However, not every relation is a function.  A relation from a set X to a set Y is called a function if each element of X is related to exactly one element in Y.

That is, given an element x in X, there is only one element in Y that x is related to.

For example, consider the following sets X and Y. Let me give you a relation between them that is not a function;

X = { 1, 2, 3 }

Y = { a , b , c, d }

Relation from X to Y : { (1,a) , (2, b) , (2, c) , (3, d) }

This relation is not a function from X to Y because the element 2 in X is related to two different elements, b and c

Relation from X to Y that is a function: { (1,d) , (2,d) , (3, a) }

This is a function since each element from X is related to only one element in Y. Note that it is okay for two different elements in X to be related to the same element in Y. It's still a function, it's just not a one-to-one function.

So, we can say that function is a type of relation.

Which means whatever a function occurs, it will be a relation from one set to other.

But when a relation occurs it may be a function but need not be always a function.

Hence, a function is always a relation but relation is not always a function.

The passing yards for the top 5 quarterbacks in the country are 3,832, 3,779, 3,655, 3,642, and 3,579. Find the variance and sta
Leviafan [203]

First get the average passing yards:

(3,832 + 3,779 + 3,655 + 3,642 + 3,579) / 5 = 3,697.4

Now get the squared residuals for each quarterback's passing yards. That is, compute the difference between each data and the average, then square the result. For example,

(3,832 - 3,697.4)^2 = 134.6^2 = 18,117.2

For the others, you should get squared residuals of

6,658.56

1,797.76

3,069.16

14,018.6

Take the sum of the squared residuals, then - since this is a sample, and not a population of all quarterbacks - divide the sum by 5 - 1 = 4 to get the variance:

(18,117.2 + 6,658.56 + 1,797.76 + 3,069.16 + 14,018.6)/4 = 10,915.3

The standard deviation is just the square root of the variance:

√(10,915.3) ≈ 104.48

densk [106]

Answer:

√(p²-4q)

Step-by-step explanation:

Using the Quadratic Formula, we can say that

x = ( -p ± √(p²-4(1)(q))) / 2(1)  with the 1 representing the coefficient of x². Simplifying, we get

x = ( -p ± √(p²-4q)) / 2

The roots of the function are therefore at

x = ( -p + √(p²-4q)) / 2 and x = ( -p - √(p²-4q)) / 2. The difference of the roots is thus

( -p + √(p²-4q)) / 2 - ( ( -p - √(p²-4q)) / 2)

= 0 + 2 √(p²-4q)/2

= √(p²-4q)
