The pyramid shown has a square base that is 18 inches on each side. It has a surface area of 864 square inches. What is the slan
disa [49]
The first step is to find the relationship between the square base and the surface area.

Surface area (SA) = area of the square (SS) + area of triangles.4(AT)

Thus we can conclude area of triangles 4(AT) = SA - SS = 864 - (18*18)

4(AT) = 864 - 324 = 540

Each triangle = 540/4 = 135 square in.

An area of one triangle (AT)= (base* slant height)/2

The base = 18 in.

slant height = 2(AT)/base = 2(135)/18 = 15

What value of x is in the solution set of 3(x – 4) ≥ 5x + 2?
alisha [4.7K]
Hey!

To start solving equation, we should first distribute the parenthesis. We do this so that we can get rid of the parenthesis.

Original Equation :
3 ( x - 4 ) ≥ 5x + 2

New Equation {Changed by Distribution} :
3x - 12 ≥ 5x + 2

Next, we'd add 12 to both sides of the equation to get rid of the 12 on the left side of the equation.

Old Equation :
3x - 12 ≥ 5x + 2

New Equation {Changed by Adding 12 to Both Sides} :
3x ≥ 5x + 14

Now we subtract 5x from both sides of the equation to get rid of the 5x from the right side.

Old Equation :
3x ≥ 5x + 14

New Equation {Changed by Subtracting 5x From Both Sides} :
-2x ≥ 14

Now we must inverse the inequality. To do that we multiply both sides by -1.

Old Equation :
-2x ≥ 14

New Equation {Changed by Inverse} :
2x ≤ -14

Just by looking at the equation, you can easily tell that it needs to be simplified. So, that's what we'll do next.

Old Equation :
2x ≤ -14

New Equation {Changed by Dividing Both Sides by Two} :
x ≤ -7

Seeing as the equation cannot be simplified any further, we have our answer.
The value of x in the inequality of 3 ( x – 4 ) ≥ 5x + 2, is x ≤ -7.

Hope this helps!

A school bus has 25 seats, with 5 rows of 5 seats. 15 students from the first grade and 5 students from the second-grade travel
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

D. 15P15 * 10P5

Step-by-step explanation:

Since you have to place all first-grade students in the first three rows, and nowhere else, we have to make a special calculation for that, then another for the rest of the bus.

These are permutations since the order is important. If we sit John, Paul, Ringo, George and Pete in this order in the first row it's a different way than seating them (in the same order) in the second row for example.

For the 15 first-graders of the first three rows (15 seats), we have 15P15 since all 15 places have to be occupied by all 15 first-graders.

Then we have 10 remaining seats left to be assigned to the 5 second-graders. That is 10P5.

We then multiply the permutation numbers of those two arrangements to get the total ways:

15P15 * 10P5, answer D.

Pleasr help me ASAP! Thank you^-^ If w = 10 units, x = 5 units, and y = 6 units, what is the surface area of the figure? Round y
Sladkaya [172]

Answer:

D:456.2 units²

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Area of all 4 sides of cuboid

Area of rectangle = 4 x length x breadth

Area of rectangle = 4 x 10 x 5

Area of rectangle = 200

Step 2: Calculate bottom of cuboid

Area = length x breadth

Area = 10 x 10

Area = 100

Step 3: Calculate slant height of pyramid

c² = a² + b²

c² is hypotenuse

a² is the base which is half of w (10/2 = 5)

b² is y which is 6

c² = a² + b²

c² = 5² + 6²

c = √61

Step 4: Calculate area of one face of the pyramid

Area of triangle = 1/2 x base x height

Area of triangle = 1/2 x 10 x √61

Area of triangle = 5√61

Step 5: Calculate areas of all 4 faces of the pyramid

4 x 5√61 = 20√61

Step 6: Calculate the total surface area

Total surface area = 200 + 100 + 20√61

Total surface area = 456.2

The surface area of the figure is 456.2 units²

Option D is correct.
