Are the expressions -0.5(3x + 5) and -1.5x + 2.5 equivalent? Explain why or why not
Gelneren [198K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

-0.5(3x + 5)   and   -1.5x + 2.5

-0.5(3x + 5)...distribute the -0.5 thru the parenthesis

-1.5x - 2.5

no, these are not equivalent.... one is -1.5x + 2.5 and the other is -1.5x - 2.5....not the same

Which equations show direct variation between a and b?
ipn [44]
Formula of direct variation is: y = kx
k is the constant of variation
y is the total value that is directly varies with the changes in x.

in this case. x is represented by a. y is represented by b.

A.) b = 0.7a  ⇒DIRECT VARIATION with 0.7 as the constant of variation

B.) b = 1/8 a⁻³  ⇒ Not a direct variation. Because a has a negative exponent

C.) 5(1/a) = b ⇒ Not a direct variation

D.) 1a = b ⇒ DIRECT VARIATION with 1 as the constant of variation

A loan of $47,000 is made at 4.5% interest, compounded annually. After how many years will the amount due reach $63,000 or more?
Alex Ar [27]
A=P(1+r)^t is comounded yearly  formula

rat ie 4.5%
P=47000
solve for when A=63000

63000=47000(1+0.045)^t
divide both sides by 47000
\frac{63}{47} =(1.045)^t
take the ln of both sides
ln(\frac{63}{47}) =ln((1.045)^t)
ln(\frac{63}{47}) =t(ln(1.045)
divide both sides by ln(1.045)
\frac{ln(\frac{63}{47})}{ln(1.045)}=t
using calculator
6.656=t
so after about 6.7 years
