Cultural ideas and new information is being spread by either the internet, or the people themselves. This is similar to the way that ideas got spread, both present time, and during the Enlightenment, because during the enlightenment, philosophers, writers, artists, scientists, and other great intellects met to discuss ideas, and today, people come together to talk about these things. It is different because while today in this day and age, we have the internet and don't need to rely too heavily on newspapers to get around to people, while back then, newspapers and pamphlets were their own type of internet.

Hopefully this helps :)
