Answer:

b. labor unions

Explanation:

The cartoon shows a man wearing a ribbon that says One big union of all the workers, and a robe that spells I.W.W, which stands for Industrial Workers of the World, a labor union.

This means the cartoon shows that labor unions were the ones fighting for the workers and better labor conditions, including the fight against child labor.

Child labor was practiced frequently at the beginning of the 20th century, as a consequence of the Industrial Revolution. Almost 50% of workers were children under the age of 14. Children would work long hours in unsafe conditions, often getting sick. They were also underpaid, earning sometimes around 20 percent of the wage of adult workers There were children as young as four years working in the factories under the dangerous condition.

I.W.W. was formed in 1905. and hoped to secure better working conditions for everyone, especially those unrecognized groups such as children, women, and immigrants. They wanted to organize all the workers of the US and fight against the capitalistic exploitation of the workers.

“congress adopted a hands-off policy towards Hawaii” mean
loris [4]

Answer:

(D) Congress would not interfere in Hawaiian affairs

Explanation:

This question is a multiple-choice question for an article about the annexation of Hawaii by the United States. The question refers to this paragraph:

Meanwhile, the provisional government had elected its first President. This President, President Dole, refused to give the government back to the Queen. Dole’s new government created a new constitution and declared Hawaii an independent Republic. Other countries began to recognize the new republic. Congress voted to adopt a hands-off policy towards Hawaii.

A hands-off policy, in this case, means that Congress of the United States won't get involved in the new Hawaii Republic. The republic itself was made by the government established by Americans who previously were in Hawaii to conduct business and is in favor of overthrowing the previous monarch, Queen Liliuokalani.

Explain how energy moves from one organism to another?
Ronch [10]

Answer:

Generally it moves from one living organism to another living organism through food.

Explanation:

A food chain typically defines how an ecosystem advances with energy and nutrients. From the start there have been crops supplying the energy, after which it appears to be moving up to the ecosystem's higher-level organisms such as herbivores.

Energy is usually transmitted from one organism of the ecosystem in the basic food chain of the ecosystem in the form of food via another life form of the ecosystem. Therefore, the energy is passed from one life form to the other life form through the food chain.

Narrate a story that ends with the saying if only she had listened
Greeley [361]

Answer:

Her Life

Sarah woke up with a shock. The nightmare again. The same one she’s been having for 2 weeks now. The one about her step-parents finally killing her. She was sitting on her bed, and her parents stormed into her room, and shot her in the heart. She died instantly, but she could still feel. Sarah’s parents kept on shooting her, and then she finds herself falling into her grave. She was flailing her arms to stop herself from falling. She looks around her room. The white walls of her room feel like a jail cell. That's how her step-parents treated her, like she’s a prisoner. The cupboard was as small as a table, maybe a few inches higher than that, but it was still small. She had a carpet with the design of roses, red. Red roses, as red as blood.

‘‘Blood.. Blood…’’ Her mind kept repeating. The dream… So much blood. Still shaken from the frightful nightmare, Sarah went downstairs. Her mother looks up at her. The same face. Everyday. The same disappointed look, which reminds her that she is adopted. ‘‘Why don't we get her married?’’ she always asks her husband. ‘‘I talked to her. So many times. She doesn't want to.’’ he’d respond. Sarah was a very unique girl. When she was just 7 years old, her mother passed away. She was living with her father, and her older brother, Noah.

Noah was two years older than Sarah. Life was good. She would go to school regularly, do homework, and was a very obedient child. When Sarah turned 10, her father went to drop her brother Noah to his soccer practice like he does every week. And left Sarah at home with a babysitter. Then, a drunk man, who was driving his SUV van, crashed into her father’s car. Her father died right away, as a piece of glass stabbed his heart. Her brother, on the other hand, lived a little longer. Sarah was taken to the hospital, to visit her brother.

When he saw her, he said “Ah..There’s my favorite sister..” Sarah was scared and two river of tears streamed down her face. She was sobbing lightly. Then she finally spoke “Are you going to die? Who will take care of me if you are gone? '' Noah responded “It is going to be OK, Sarah...” “NO!” She yelled. “NO, no, no, no, no!! It will not be OK! You can’t die! I WON'T LET YOU!!!” She ran and hugged him tight, thinking that if she held him, he’d stay. “I love you,” Noah said. Then, Sarah heard the heart monitor flatten. Poor Sarah slept right beside her brother, and sobbed quietly, no one could get her off of him. The innocent girl was then sent to the orphanage, as she had no cousin’s, or relatives that would take her in.

A family adopted her when she turned 12. Since then, her step - parents would make her do all the chores, and give her only two meals a day. Ever since then, she hasn’t been the same. Sarah runs upstairs, jumps on her bed, and starts sobbing loudly. ‘‘That’s it.’’ She whispers to herself. ‘‘I can't take this anymore.’’ She gets up, takes her basket, and dumps out her whole drawer. ‘‘Flashlight? Check. Book and pencil? Check. Emergency snack? Check. OK, now...’’ She goes to her cupboard and takes her clothes and stuffs them inside her other picnic basket. She puts on her scarf, and walks towards the clear window.

The house is a small one, so she can jump right out and land on her feet. She grew up in this town, so she knows it like the back of her hand. She quickly goes to the wood, filled with pine tree’s, and the grass as tall as her waist. It was the Autumn of 2018. It’s dark, but she can run away without being seen. She will have to fend for herself from now on, but at least her step-parents won't find her and abuse her. We'll, her mother anyway.. Sarah thought “If only she had listened...”

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, why did the poet Qu Yuan drown himself in the river? Why is t
hram777 [196]

Answer:

1. To die for the country. At that time, the Qin state was particularly powerful, and after the capital of the Chu state was captured by Qin. Qu Yuan felt that his country was about to perish. As a person with strong feelings for the state of Chu, Qu Yuan did not want to see this scene happen with his own eyes, so he threw himself into the Miluo River.

2. Dying to be perfect. Qu Yuan's character is upright, while politics is dark and cruel. Qu Yuan found that his political ambitions were impossible to accomplish under the leadership of a king like King Huai of Chu and the cooperation of incompetent colleagues who were scheming but not involved in civil affairs. What Qu Yuan wanted was "Mingjun" and "Prince Zhe", and colleagues who could sincerely make achievements for the common people, but the stark reality woke him up again and again and finally threw him into the river.

3. Died to save King Qingxiang. This is a rather novel statement. It originated from a folklore that after the death of King Huai, the state of Chu could no longer withstand any attacks. At that time, the state of Qin often invaded the state of Chu and finally captured Yingdu. During the process of being hunted down by Qin State, King Qingxiang thought of Qu Yuan who was near the Miluo River with Liufang, and wanted to ask him if there was any way he could pull back the game and revive Chu State. However, the Qin army followed after learning of King Qingxiang's thoughts. In order to protect King Qingxiang, Qu Yuan exchanged clothes with him and jumped down the Miluo River in front of the Qin army, and King Xiang was rescued.
