What would happen if the national law were not supreme?
Elina [12.6K]
If we did not have the protection of Constitutional Rights there would be regional pockets of intolerance where the prevailing majorities would pass laws that violate the rights of the minorities. There would be no balance. It is part of human nature for the powerful to take advantage, and control, of the less powerful in order to further their own desires and self interests. If that were to happen we would descend into a quagmire of hodge-podge laws and we would lose the stability and intelligence of the national framework of equality we now experience.

How did the growth of trade, commerce, and city-states create a boom in art and learning during the Renaissance?
svlad2 [7]
Basically as the banking system was in its nascent stages in Italian cities, such as Florence, there was the rise of a centralized wealthy urban class. Certain families such as the Medici rose to the fore. Their wealth dictated the frescoes and artworks in many parts of the cities in which they resided. They often competed to commission works of artists and underwrite the lives of such folk.

As time went by these families grew to control such other worldwide operations as the Church of Rome.

Which of the following statements are true about the Pilgrims' settlement? Select all that apply.
ZanzabumX [31]

The only genuinely true item I see is: The Pilgrims elected a governor prior to settling on the new land.

Matthew Cradock was elected as the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Company before any group even set sail to the New World. Then John Endecott became the one sent to go with the settlers to be first governor of the colony itself.

As for the other answers, the first winters were harsh and took a toll on the Pilgrim population.

The Massachusetts Bay Colony eventually became part of the Plymouth Colony (the opposite of how things were stated above).

The Pilgrims did not disband. The most famous of Massachusetts Bay Colony governors was the 3rd governor, John Winthrop. And Squanto was helpful to them.
