A nurse in the intensive care unit is responding to a low-pressure limit mechanical ventilator alarm. The nurse will assess for
slega [8]

The nurse will assess for inadequate tracheostomy tube cuff inflation while responding to a low-pressure limit mechanical ventilator alarm.

  • An alarm for excessive airway pressure indicates an issue with compliance or resistance.
  • To stop the alarm and make sure the patient receives the predetermined number of breaths from the ventilator, turn up the upper limit on the alarm parameter first.

An audible and/or visual alert will trigger if the pressure inside the breathing circuit falls below the Low Airway Pressure Alarm limit specified on the ventilator. Low pressure alerts can be caused by, among other things:

  • The patient's connection to the ventilator circuit breaks.
  • inadequate tracheostomy tube cuff inflation
  • nasal cushions, prongs, or invasive non-masks that don't fit well
  • Circuit and tube connections that are loose
  • The ventilator cannot supply the patient with as much air as they need.

What factors contribute to the urgency with which a patient must be treated in an
tatyana61 [14]

Answer:

So, it depends on how serious their wound is. It's like a scale of one to ten, if it's a one being not serious, then you won't get admitted soon. But if it's a ten, being incredibly serious, then you'll get admitted sooner. Their method is known as Triage. Same thing goes with the person's illness.

Why are genomes important to the development of vaccines
Cerrena [4.2K]
Vaccines are the most efficacious means of minimizing the impact of infectious diseases on the human population. The challenges and importance of making vaccines that will meet FDA approval have never been greater. Genomics has the potential to improve the process of vaccine development substantially. Genome sequencing can help to identify genetic patterns related to the virulence of a disease, as well as genetic factors that contribute to immunity or successful vaccine response. All this information could lead to vaccines with better and more specific targets that elicit more successful protective immune responses. Comparing the genome sequences of viruses that cause infection with those that do not may provide additional insights. In turn, genome manipulation can facilitate derivation of attenuated strains or other vehicles for delivery of the desired antigens to stimulate immune response. On the other end of the spectrum, analysis of host diversity can reveal effective immune responses and possibly the genetic basis for inappropriate response. The recent progress in definition of the innate immune system, necessary for acquired response, should facilitate the definition of this host diversity.
