1-1 Additional Practice: Key Features of Functions. Need answers to these problems !!!
Vladimir79 [104]

Answer:

1. Domain (-∞, ∞)

Range: (-20, ∞)

x-intercepts: (-5, 0), and (5, 0)

y-intercepts: (0, -25)

Interval positive: (-∞, -5), and (5, ∞)

Interval negative: (-5, 5)

Interval increasing: (0, ∞)

Interval decreasing: (-∞, 0)

Given that the shape is that of a quadratic graph, we have;

f(x) = (x - 5)×(x + 5) = x² - 25 = 0

Where;

The 5s are from the x-intercept

The slope = dy/dx = d(x² - 25)dx = 2·x

The slope at the point (-2, 0), therefore, x is -2, we have;

Slope = 2·x = 2 × x = 2 × (-2) = -4

The slope at the point (-2, 0) = -4

The rate of change over the interval = (-20 - (-25))/(-2 - 0) = -2.5

The rate of change over the interval = -2.5

2) Domain (-∞, ∞)

Range: (3, ∞)

x-intercepts: N/A

y-intercepts: (0, 7)

Interval positive: (-∞, ∞)

Interval negative: NA

Interval increasing: (-2, ∞)

Interval decreasing: (-∞, -2)

Given that the shape at (-2, 0) is that of a straight line graph, we have;

Rate of change = dy/dx = (7 - 3)/(0 - (-2)) = 2

The rate of change over the interval (-2, 0) = 2

3) Please find attached, the required graph drawn using Microsoft Excel

4) The key features are;

Domain: (0, 50/0.5) = (0, 100)

Range: (0, 50)

x-intercepts: (0, 0)

y-intercepts: (0, 0)

Interval positive: (0, 100)

Interval negative: N/A

Interval increasing: (0, 100)

Interval decreasing: N/A

The rate of change over the interval (-2, 0) = 0.5 ft³/min

Step-by-step explanation:

The domain is the range of values of the input (x) variables

The range is the range of values of the output (y) variables

The x-intercepts. are the points where the graph crosses the x-axis

The y-intercepts. are the points where the graph crosses the y-axis

The interval positive is the range of values over which the y-values are larger than 0

The interval negative is the range of values over which the y-values are lesser than 0

The interval increasing is the range of values over which the y-values are continuously increasing

The interval decreasing is the range of values over which the y-values are continuously decreasing

The rate of change over an interval is the ratio of the change in the y-values to the corresponding change in the x-values, over the range.

 • Choice B) angle R and angle U
 • Choice D) angle K and angle L

=====================================================

Explanation:

There are a lot of lines here, so it's easy to get a bit lost if you're not careful. I recommend starting with a blank piece of paper. On it, draw two lines that intersect any way you want. An "X" shape forms. The angles that are opposite one another (eg: top and bottom angles) are known as vertical angles, and they are always congruent.

Going back to your diagram, angle R and angle U fit the description of vertical angles. We used two lines to form these vertical angles. Despite the name, the angles do not have to be aligned vertically. Unfortunately it's a misnomer in my opinion. Angle R is opposite angle U, and both are formed by the two slanted lines that go in both directions. It might help to copy the diagram your teacher has given to you, and then erase the portions that seem extra (eg: erase the ray that helps form angle S, and also erase angle S as well) and it might help show why angle R is a vertical angle pair with angle U.

Similarly, angle K and angle L fit the description as well, so this is the second pair of vertical angles.

Something like "angle E and angle N" is not an answer because we used 3 lines to help form these angles, instead of two only. We can rule out "angle S and angle J" for similar reasons.

As for when you see vertical angles in everyday life, it depends on what the context is. For example, if you're drawing out a floorplan, then knowing the angles may be very handy. You could use a protractor to measure the angles, or you could use geometric properties such as the vertical angle theorem to quickly determine the angle values (if you know some angles already).

a box is a cuboid with dimensions 28cm by 15 cm by 20 cm all measured to the nearest centimetre. Disc cases are cuboids which me
nataly862011 [7]

Answer:

See Below

Step-by-step explanation:

To get volume of cuboid, we multiply the 3 dimensions.

Volume of Box = 28 * 15 * 20 = 8400

Volume of 1 disc case = 1.5 * 14.2 * 19 = 404.7

Volume of 17 disc cases = 17 * 404.7 = 6879.9

Since, volume of 17 disc cases is less than volume of the cuboid box, definitely 17 disc cases will fit the box.
