What is the main function of environmental policy? a. prevent the use of natural resources b. reduce human impact on the environ
Sergeeva-Olga [200]

The most important function of the environmental policy is to keep a track of human activities that can impact the environment.

Further explanation:

The environmental policy is a set of rules and regulations, laws, and policies made up by the government or organization regarding environmental issues. Ecosystem management, biodiversity maintenance, and water and air pollution are some of the issues concerning the environment. The policies which involve regulation of substances like pesticides and other industrial wastes also come under environmental policy. One of the most deliberate roles of environmental policy is to regulate and direct human activities so as to prevent the environment and its resources from the harmful effects. These policies also make sure that humans are not affected by the harmful changes in their environments.

The government intervention through policies for the protection of the environment is necessary as natural resources are not owned by any one person and tend to be over-exploited. When the waste products are produced by the factor along with the main product, it is released into the nearby water body, thereby leaving it contaminated. This water might be used by other people for drinking purposes but due to the contamination the society has to bear the extra cost of cleaning the water. Therefore, the environmental policy has provision which states that the dumping of factory waste must be done only when it is free of any hazardous chemicals. Another problem is that the common people have the incentive to utilize natural resources to any extent. With the least interference from the government the resources will be overused.
