What is the policy the government uses to keep all of the branches equal?
Sindrei [870]

Answer:

The principle of checks and balances is that each branch has power to limit or check the other two, which creates a balance between the three separate branches of the state. This principle induces one branch to prevent either of the other branches from becoming supreme, thereby securing political liberty.

What statement describes an example of a limit on the power of the House of Representatives?
Alexandra [31]
The limits on the powers of Congress are as follows:

1. The Congress is not allowed to pass laws post ex facto which means that the law cannot prosecute people for a something that was not considered a crime before.

2. Congress is denied the ability to pass bills of attainder meaning they are not allowed to prosecute criminals in special tribunals but only in regular court trials.

3. The Congress cannot suspend the writ of habeas corpus means that the Congress cannot deny the right of the criminals to stand before a judge and learn the charges they face that enables them to defend themselves.

What were the advantages and limitations of the Twenty-fourth Amendment for advancing the civil rights movement?
Elza [17]

The 24th amendment was important to the Civil Rights Movement as it ended mandatory poll taxes that prevented many African Americans.  Poll taxes, combined with grandfather clauses and intimidation, effectively prevented African Americans from having any sort of political power, especially in the South.  When the 24th amendment passed, five southern states, Virginia, Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi still had poll taxes.  Most Southern states, at one time or another had poll taxes and in severe cases, had cumulative poll taxes that required the voter to pay taxes not just from that year, but also previous years they had not voted.
