To check if the student is correct, we are going to solve the equation step by step.

Step 1 divide both sides of the equation by 5:

5x^2=20

\frac{5x^2}{5} =\frac{20}{5}

x^2=4

Step 2 take square root to both sides of the equation:

\sqrt{x^2} =(+/-)\sqrt{4}

x=(+/-)\sqrt{4}

x=2 or x=-2

The equation has tow solutions, x=2 and x=-2.

I disagree with the student because x=2 is just one solution and not the only one; x=-2 is also a valid solution of the equation.

I disagree. If each side of the equation is divided by 5, the result is x2 = 4. By the square root property of equality, x = -2 or x = 2. So x could be -2 instead of 2.

Answer:

93

Step-by-step explanation:

Line EJ is a straight line, with Line DC cutting through it. So 180 = Angle DCJ + Angle DCE. So Angle DCE =  48. Triangles are equal to 180°. So 180 = ? +39 +48. So ? = 93

Find the height of a cylinder with a surface area of 108 pi square meters. The radius of the cylinder is twice the height.
myrzilka [38]
Let
x---------> radius of the cylinder
y---------> the height of the cylinder

we know that
x=2y
[surface area of cylinder]=2*[pi*r²]+2*pi*r*h
surface area=108*pi m²
r=x
h=y
x=2y
108*pi=2*[pi*(2y)²]+2*pi*(2y)*y
108*pi=8*pi*y²+4*pi*y²
108*pi=12*pi*y²
y²=108/12
y²=9----------> y=√9--------> y=3 m
x=2y-------> x=2*3-----> x=6 m

the answer is
the height of the cylinder is 3 m

  • Derivative Notation

Derivative Rule [Product Rule]:                                                                             \displaystyle \frac{d}{dx} [f(x)g(x)]=f'(x)g(x) + g'(x)f(x)

Trig Derivatives

Logarithmic Derivatives

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Step 1: Define</u>

<em>Identify</em>

\displaystyle f(x) = ln(x)cos(x)

<u>Step 2: Differentiate</u>

  1. Derivative Rule [Product Rule]:                                                                     \displaystyle f'(x) = \frac{d}{dx}[ln(x)]cos(x) + ln(x)\frac{d}{dx}[cos(x)]
  2. Logarithmic Derivative:                                                                                 \displaystyle f'(x) = \frac{1}{x}cos(x) + ln(x)\frac{d}{dx}[cos(x)]
  3. Trig Derivative:                                                                                             \displaystyle f'(x) = \frac{1}{x}cos(x) + ln(x)[-sin(x)]
  4. Simplify:                                                                                                         \displaystyle f'(x) = \frac{cos(x)}{x} - ln(x)sin(x)

Haley is 41 years old. Haley is 15 years less than seven times Marcy's age. How old is Marcie
blondinia [14]
Harley is 15 years less than seven times Marcy's age, so that means Haley + 15 = 7 * Marcy

Equation: (41 + 15) / 7 = 56 / 7 = 8

Marcy's age is 8.

Hope this helped =)
