Which of the following is NOT a functional property of simple carbohydrates (e.g. glucose and sucrose): Participate in browning
myrzilka [38]

Answer: Increased water activity

Explanation:

The simple carbohydrates like glucose and sucrose can participate in the browning reactions, provide texture to the food, provide viscosity to the liquids.

The property which is not shown by the simple carbohydrates are increased water activity. The water activity is reduced by the mixing of sucrose. Adding sugar in the water decreases the shear value which inturn dehydrates the solution and decreases the water activity.

5 . which one of the following statements is true about P waves?
tigry1 [53]

The correct answer is (B) they travel faster than S waves

As the interior of the earth is incompressible, the P-waves moves much faster and transmit their energy through the medium and travel very fast as compared to the S waves. In case of S waves, they are slow because the movement of medium is perpendicular to the direction of propagation of waves’ waves travel 60 times faster than S waves. The variation in speed of travel is because the earth reacts differently to both the waves.

How are biotic factors in the marine ecosystem responsible for bringing carbon-dioxide into the ocean?
Wewaii [24]

Answer:

Marine ecosystem have biotic organisms like phytoplankton and photosynthetic algae that do photosynthesis and converts the atmospheric carbon dioxide into organic matter most of the carbon dioxide is released when other organisms eat phytoplankton and release the carbon dioxide through respiration.

But some of the algae and phytoplanktons die naturally get down to the bottom of the ocean where they make carbon sink. Some organisms accumulate CO₂ in their exoskeleton that is made up of calcium carbonate.

Therefore this use of carbon by living organisms in oceans brings carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to oceans. This is why the ocean plays a critical role in the carbon cycle and called carbon sink.
