The period between 1776 and 1800 was turbulent for the young U.S. because it was the era of the birth of the United States. The American Revolution went on for about 18 years (1765-1783), and after defeating the British, America needed to plant itself a government, hence the birth of The Constitution and the declaration of the "all men are created equal" trope.
