My next challenge was that I wanted to make things out of metal, so I became interested in how to use a lathe, a milling machine

, and so on. I went to buy this new equipment I thought I'd need and met a man who had a machine shop of his own who was about to retire and move to Florida. He allowed me to visit him after school and on weekends to observe how he used all his tools. I was hooked. When he retired I bought not only all his big equipment but all his little toolboxes as well – they were treasures!
—“On Becoming an Inventor,”
Dean Kamen

Read this passage. Use details from the text to explain how Kamen supports his opinion that making things out of metal was enjoyable.

Answer:

Kamen supports his opinion that making things out of metal was enjoyable. I know this because he says things like he was interested and how on weekends he looked at all of his tools.First off, he says he was much interested in it. The text explicitly states "so I became interested in how to use a lathe, a milling machine, and so on. I went to buy this new equipment I thought I'd need and met a man who had a machine shop of his own who was about to retire and move to Florida." All this means is that he went to Florida because he was interested in the metals and tools. Next off, on weekends he was sat there and was observing the tools all weekend. The text states "He allowed me to visit him after school and on weekends to observe how he used all his tools. " This means he would use the weekend instead of doing anything he would do that. All in all, Kamen supports his opinion that making things out of metal was enjoyable. I know this because he says things like he was interested and how on weekends he looked at all of his tools.

Hope this helps!

Choose four key events that best capture the plot of the story . Write a summary of the story based on these four events . About
Tamiku [17]

Answer and Explanation:

The four events that best capture the plot of the story can be:

1. A stranger comes to a family home.

2. The stranger is invited in by the mother.

3. He begins to behave oddly.

4. The father and the mother are shaken by the visit.

The summary is as follows, based on the four events above:

One evening, a stranger rings the bell of a family house. He claims that he used to live in that very house when he was a child. The father is the one who answers the door, and he gives the man permission to look around the yard. The mother, however, out of sympathy, decides to invite the stranger in so that he can take a look inside the house.

As soon as he comes in, the man begins to behave more and more oddly while reminiscing. His words and actions begin to make the parents uncomfortable. Some of his sentences are cut in half, and many imply he was victim of some sort of domestic abuse. At some point, it is even possible to infer that this man is in fact dead. He is a ghost who has come to revisit the place where he suffered so much.

Finally, the father decides it is time for the stranger to go. He and his wife are shaken by the visit, to the point of being angry at each other. The mother tries to blame the father, saying she was not the one who answered the door.
