Talja [164]

Answer:

Total discount = $39.50

                  or 46.47 %

Step-by-step explanation:

First we need to figure out what she will pay for the shoes.  She is getting 30 percent off the 65 dollars.

Discount = price * percent off

                = 65*.3

                = 19.50

The cost of her shoes is the price minus the discount.

Cost = 65- 19.5

        = 45.50

To find the total discount, take the original price and subtract the final cost.

Total discount = 85-45.50

                        = 39.50

To find the total percent discount, we use the formula

      total percent discount = (original - final)/original * 100

                                             = (85- 45.50)/85 * 100

                                             = 39.5/85*100

                                              = 46.47%

Kamila buys a notebook for $1.59 and pens for $0.29 each. She spends $5.07.
emmasim [6.3K]

Answer:

12 pens

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the variable that can be used to determine the number of pens that Kamila bought be represented by n.

Price of a notebook = $1.59

Price a pen = $0.29

Total amount spent = $5.07

But,

1.59 + 0.29 n = 5.07

So that,

0.29 n = 5.07 - 1.59

0.29 n  = 3.48

n = \frac{3.48}{0.29}

  = 12

Therefore, Kamila bought 12 pens.

Let x be equal to the number of drinks Yasmine consumed.
Jose had 2 times that drink so his number of consumed drink would be represented by 2x.
Sally had 3 fewer drink than Jose so her number of consumed drinks would be represented by 2x-3.
Altogether, the three of them consumed 72 drinks so your equation would be:
x+2x+(2x-3)=72
add like terms together:
5x-3=72
have the term with x be alone on one side of the equation, in this case by adding three to both sides:
5x=75
now divide both sides by five for the value of x and your answer is.....
x=15
