If there are 12 girls out of 20 total students in the class, than 12/20 of the class are girls

If there are 8 boys in the class, than 8/20 of the class are boys.

If you randomly picked a student from the class, hypothetically 8 out of 20 times it would be a boy because that is how many boys there are in class versus girls. 8/20 is the probability. To find the percentage, divide 8/20, then multiply that by 100.

8/20 = 0.4
0.4 x 100 = 40%
