(AKS 3b / DOK 2) Four students were discussing how surface area to volume ratio limits cell size. Which student claim below woul

d be the
BEST claim to support?
O A. Student 1: The larger the cell, the more nutrients it will receive in a shorter amount of time
B. Student 2: As the cell gets bigger, the outside of the cell is able to keep up with its internal needs
OC. Student 3: Waste diffuse out of the larger cells faster than smaller cells

Answer:

D

Explanation:

Let's assume there's two cuboidal cells, cell A and B

Cell A has a side of x

Let's find the surface area of cell A

SA = 6(L²)

SA = 6(x²)

SA = 6x²

Let's find the volume of cell A

V = L³

V = (x)³

V = x³

Cell B has a side of 2x

Now let's find the surface area of cell B

SA = 6(L²)

SA = 6(2x)²

SA = 24x²

Let's find the volume of cell B

V = (L)³

V = (2x)³

V = 8x³

As you can see, just by doubling the side length, the ratio between Surface Area and Volume went from 6/x to 3/x (the x² in the numerator and the x³ in the denominator cancel out forming 1/x)

The ratio decreased, therefore, D is the statement that makes sense

A mutation in a G-protein prevents the alpha-subunit from dissociating from the beta/gamma-subunit. What effect will this have o
Ymorist [56]

Answer:

the pathway will be under-expressed.

 • the alpha subunit helps to bind with either GDP or GTP. when the α subunit is bound with GDP, it will be bound to β and γ subunits and thus forms an inactive state for G-protein.
 • when the alpha subunit binds with the GTP, it becomes activated and dissociates β and γ subunits.

if G-protein Coupled Receptor is unable from dissociating β and γ subunits, then the pathway will go under expression.

The chemical qualities of the alpha subunit allow it to bind easily to one of two guanine subunits, GDP or GTP. The protein thus has two functional formations. When GDP is bound to the alpha subunit, the alpha subunit remains bound to the beta-gamma subunit to form an inactive trimeric protein.

G-proteins, cAMP, and Ion Channel Opening. The alpha subunit activates adenylate cyclase, in purple, and loses GTP. Adenylate cyclase converts ATP to cyclic AMP, which then activates Protein Kinase, shown in blue. Protein Kinase phosphorylates an ion channel, letting sodium ions rush into the cell.

As a result of the ligand binding to its site on the G-protein-linked receptor, A) the G-protein changes conformation and GTP replaces the GDP on the alpha subunit. ... Inactivation of the alpha subunit occurs when its own phosphorylase activity removes a phosphate from the GTP.

In corn, the allele A allows the deposition of anthocyanin (blue) pigment in the kernels (seeds), while aa plants have yellow ke
lara31 [8.8K]

Answer:

A) Yes, 12 mu

B) AaWw

C) 0.25%

Explanation:

As given,

Allele A for blue anthocynin.

aa for yellow kernel;

at second locus;

W produce smooth kernel,

ww for wrinkled kernel;

Parents as given are: AaWw and aaww

Progeny are:

blue smooth ( AaWw)= 1447;

blue wrinkle (Aaww)= 169;

yellow smooth (aaWw)= 186;

yellow wirnked (aaww)= 1510

a)

Recombinant progeny are 169+ 186= 355

non- recombinant progeny are = 1447+ 1510= 2957

so recombination frequency (RF)= 346/2957×100= 12.0054%

So a and w are linked genes.

They are 12 mu far away from each other.

b) Blue smooth parent= AaWw.

c) Aaww crossed with aaWw

progeny are= AaWw, Aaww, aaWw, aaww,

They all are produced in same proportion =0.25% or 1/4.
