As the altitude increases the air get colders and pressure drops.

The air that travels through the troposphere gets colder and dries out as there are fewer molecules of air to create friction.
Hence the pressure drops rapidly and only about 10% of the air pressure can be found at the top of the troposphere. Thus pressure is always measured from the base sea levels.
