World war 1 began on 28 July 1914 and ended on 11 November 1918, so the years when WW1 lasted were 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918 it lasted exactly 4 years 3 months and 2 weeks :)
Depending on the exact time, most native american populations declined due to wars with the British and Americans. Diseases and epidemics would also take many lives at that time. Hope this helps.
