All of their militaries would have different types of fighting, stronger suits, types of leaders, etc. Finally, they would all have different currencies. One city state could use much more silver than another any you could physically tell the difference. For example, the Athenian Drachma was 4.3 grams of silver and the Corinthian Drachma was 8.6 grams of silver.
