Explanation:

Harry Bittering’s point of view is that he was worried that they will be stuck on Mars because NYC was atomic bombed. He has this point of view because he noticed that the Martian air is slowly changing them into Martians. For example, the one and only cow that the Bittering's have been slowly growing a third horn. And if they don't build a rocket soon that takes them to Earth, he acknowledged that they will eventually, turn into Martians. His way of thinking was developed in the story by the author making Sam and the other characters in this section act casual making Harry tense up even more.
