The Cultural Revolution ultimately failed because it caused the widespread deaths of many people in China and set the country backwards instead of setting it forwards toward progression and caused great loss for the Communist party who created the Cultural Revolution. Therefore, we can state that it was a lose-lose situation.

The Cultural Revolution in China ultimately failed because people began to seriously question communism.

Further Explanations:

The cultural revolution of China is considered to be a socio-political program in china tossed by Mao Zedong, Communist Party. The revolution aimed to preserve the Chinese communism by eliminating traditional and capitalist element of the society.

During the era of the revolution, many folks were sent to re-education campgrounds as they were not considered as loyal to communist ideology. The camps were established in 1955 which were also the first sanctioned policy of the Chinese administration. Mao stated that intellectual people could not be trustworthy with respect to education to the people and because of that thousands of teachers and professors were directed to re-education camps that resulted in the drop of literateness in china. The police department was given the power to apprehend anyone who denies the communist ideology and drive them to re-education camps.

These all factors resulted in the letdown of the revolution of china and loss of faith towards the government.
