e down the answers. The recurring dream had plagued Rosita during final examinations, but she had to wonder why she was having it again now that classes were over. That's when she realized that her mother was calling her from the first floor.
2 Suddenly, it all came rushing back to her—she was graduating today, and she was the valedictorian. Rosita had to give a speech in front of the faculty, her classmates, and all their families in exactly one hour. She immediately tossed the covers off, rushed to her closet, and started getting ready. After donning her white graduation gown, Rosita quickly raked a brush through her long dark hair before pulling the mortarboard cap on her head and racing downstairs.

3 When Rosita's mother saw her panic-stricken face, she took her daughter in her arms and gave her a comforting hug.

4 "Everything will be just fine, sweetheart," her mother said reassuringly. But Rosita wasn't feeling very optimistic, especially since she had forgotten to finish her speech.

Answer:

A) It creates a sense of urgency.

Explanation:

A change in pace that is present in the second paragraph creates a sense of urgency. We can feel that by the use of words <em>suddenly, rushing, immediately, rushed, racing.</em> Rosita has to make it to the graduation ceremony and she could be late if she doesn't hurry. She has to do a lot of things, and all of them are described in a relatively short paragraph. All of that contributes to the sense of urgency.

Answer:

"Ain’t this the living gall!"

"They don't do it like that anymore."

"Lord, Lord, Lord . . ."

Explanation:

These are the three options that develop the idea that racially charged confrontations can have a sudden and unpleasant impact. In the first case, the phrase "Ain’t this the living gall!" describes Ruth's reaction at facing this type of confrontation. She is amazed at seeing the lengths people will go to in order to avoid relationships with black people. The phrase "They don't do it like that anymore" describes how conflicts between white and black people have changed, but continue to be present. Finally, the phrase "Lord, Lord, Lord . . ." describes Mama's reaction at the awareness of being involved in this sort of conflict.

aksik [14]

After reading and analyzing what the speaker of Shakespeare's "Sonnet 18" says, we can answer in the following manner:

The speaker says his beloved will live eternally because:

A. The beloved will be remembered as long as people can read this poem.

The speaker thinks a comparison of his beloved to a summer's day is:

B. not complimentary enough.

<h3>What the speaker says in "Sonnet 18"</h3>

In "Sonnet 18", the speaker is complimenting the person he loves. He thinks that comparing her to a summer day will not be good enough, since she has more and better qualities:

"Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate..."

The speaker also says, towards the end of the poem, that the person he loves will never die for she will be immortalized in the poem. As long as people read the poem, she will exist:

"So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee."

With the information above in mind, we can choose options A and B respectively as the best choices.
