Father looks for him but all he can find is Bruno's pile of clothes along the fence. Nobody ever heard about anything from Bruno or Shmuel and Gretel and Mother never went back to Berlin. Thats the end of Bruno's story and nothing like that would ever happen to anyone today, not in this day and age.
