Population Growth

By the time of the Industrial Revolution, there were more people than ever before. A main reason for this was 18th century agricultural improvements, which all but ended the periodic famines that had kept down European populations. From 1750 to 1850, the population of England alone nearly tripled.

Rural to urban migration

A couple of hundred years ago, most of the populations in Europe and America were living a rural life. However, with the advent of the Industrial Revolution, people migrated from farms to urban areas. They came to the urban areas to work, earn more money and have a chance to improve their quality of life.

Growth of cities

Industrialization has historically led to urbanization by creating economic growth and job opportunities that draw people to cities. Urbanization typically begins when a factory or multiple factories are established within a region, thus creating a high demand for factory labor.

A movement called Black Muslims emerged, with Malcolm X as its spokesman, demanding a separate, black only nation in the USA. This movement thought non-violence meant non-defense, thus admitting to racial segregation.

Another extreme black leader was Stokely Carmichael with his Black Power. He advocated the rights of black people to take their own power, without waiting for the whites to give it to them.
