Answer:

(x + 4)^2 + (y - 8)^2 = 81

or

(x + 4)^2 + (y - 8)^2 = 9^2 depending on how your teacher wants it written.

Step-by-step explanation:

The standard form for a circle is

(x + h)^2 + (y + k)^2 = r^2

r is the radius.

You are given the diameter

r = d/2

r = 18/2

r = 9

So you already have the right hand side of the equation

(x + h)^2 + (y + k)^2 = 9*2

(x + h)^2 + (y + k)^2 = 81

You basically have h and k as well. They come from the center point.

h = 4

k = - 8

So the equation of the circle (and the answer) is

(x + 4)^2 + (y - 8)^2 = 81

One question remains. Why do the x and y values change signs? If you know what the distance formula is, then what you are finding is the distance r of all points on the circle from the center of the circle.

It is the distance formula that is actually the formula for the circle.

Events A and B have probabilities such that P(A) = 0.3, P(B) = 0.25, P(M ∪ N) = 0.425, and P(M ∩ N) = 0.075. Are events A and ev
nekit [7.7K]

Answer:

(C)Yes, because P(M) ∙ P(N) = P(M ∩ N)

Step-by-step explanation:

Two events A and B are independent if P(A)P(B)=P(A ∩ B)

Given events A and B such that:

P(A) = 0.3, P(B) = 0.25, P(A ∪ B) = 0.425, and P(A ∩ B) = 0.075

 • P(A)P(B)=0.3 X 0.25 =0.075
 • P(A ∩ B) = 0.075

Since the two expression above gives the same answer, they are independent.

The correct option is C.

A rectangular gasoline tank can hold 45.0 kg of gasoline when full. what is the depth of the tank if it is 0.450 m wide by 0.900
garri49 [273]
The answer is 0.154 m

Step 1. Calculate the volume of gasoline tank (V) using the known mass (m) and density of gasoline (D).
D = m/V
⇒ V = m/D
D = 719.7 kg/m³
m = 45.0 kg
V = 45.0 kg/719.7 kg/m³ = 0.0625 m³

Step 2. Calculate the depth of the tank (d) using the known volume (V) of gasoline and width (w) and length (l) of the tank:
V = d * w * l
0.0625 = d * 0.900 * 0.450
0.0625 = d * 0.405
d = 0.0625 / 0.405
d = 0.154 m
