Journalists Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward revealed that President Nixon had a role in the conspiracy and knew about the trespassing of thieves into the Democratic National Committee on June 17, 1972.

After this revelation, millions of Americans felt disillusioned with American politics and the way their officials tried to lie or manipulate the information. This scandal represented a hard hit to American politics.
