This conformist culture consisted of men and women getting married, having kids, obtaining a house in the suburbs, and following organized religion (especially different forms of Christianity). The Americans who did not follow organized religion during this time were part of the counterculture (also known as the Beatnik generation).

After the end of World War II it was the time of decline of European colonies which lead to the rise of new superpowers and emergence of several new countries on the map.
