The restorative theory of sleep states that sleep helps our body save and restore energy by slowing our metabolism, which leads to energy conservation. When we have a good night's sleep, we really feel relaxed and more energetic, so we can believe that this theory of sleep is the most relevant.

This theory states that sleep also helps to replenish our neurotransmitter deposits, since most neurons decrease their activity during sleep. Slow waves of sleep have restorative effects. They provide a rest period for the brain. Without rest, our brain does not function properly.
